Mushroom Edibles
What's Actually in Them?

Tryptomics has been a pioneer of the mushroom product testing industry by providing the most robust and accurate panels available. Over the past two years, we have been collecting edible data from manufacturers, consumers, and news organizations looking to understand what's in these products. Thus, through the generous allowance by our testing clients, we're allowed to share this data with you.

4-AcO-DMT - Psilacetin

This all started over certain brands, or knockoff thereof, putting 4-AcO-DMT in chocolate bars and labeling it as "Magic Mushrooms", "Amanita Mushrooms", or "Nootropic Blend". There was no mention of a precursor to psilocin being in these bars, nor any indication to know how much of the synthetic molecule was added. We ended up finding about 15% of the tested bars had it.

How Strong Are They?

This bar graph shows but the potency of edibles per serving (blue bars) and per package (grey and red bars). The red bars are there to indicate samples that had detectable amounts of 4-AcO-DMT.

It's important to note that strongest sample was nearly 60mg per package of 4-AcO-DMT, whereas the average chocolate bar is dosed in the 15-25mg range.

What Else is In Them?

This heatmap shows the concentration of each compound we tested for in these chocolates. A darker color shading of the cell indicates a higher concentration of the given compound. Samples with red names are samples that were found to contain 4-AcO-DMT.

What's Next?

This doesn't end here... As we wrap up our work with this dataset, we have already begun seeing new compounds popping up on store shelves under some of these same brands and new ones.

While 4-AcO-DMT may not be a dangerous molecule plaguing our society, this is very reminiscent of JWH-18 and the early K2 and Spice days, where the early compounds were very similar to Cannabis, and as manufacturers avoided regulators, the active ingredients began to switch until it began causing serious problems. Let's not have another Diamond Shruumz case and ensure everyone you know eats tested products!
